“Parents and teachers can be assured that encouraging your young piano student to compete will greatly advance your child’s musical abilities and will also teach them lessons that will encourage excellence throughout their lives.” – Steinway Company

The Hartford Chapter of CSMTA offers primarily two piano competitions each year: The Select Student Competition and the prestigious Audrey Thayer Piano Competition. Here you will find information and links for information about both events.
The Select Students Competition is a great entry into the world of piano competitions and is offered for grades 2-12. Students receive comments and feedback, and some are selected to move on to the Winner’s Recital.
The Audrey Thayer Competition is a prized competition open to students grades 3-12. Students receive comments and feedback, and winners receive monetary awards graciously donated by local arts supporters.
Students selected from each of these competitions play in the Winner’s Recital in May of each year.
How do competitions benefit students? There is a lovely article from the Steinway Company that details why competitions are integral for the musical education of some students. You can find that article HERE.
